About Salt Spring Island Cheese Company:
Nothing is more patronizing, or - and please excuse the pun - 'cheesy' than a company's finely crafted corporate statement of philosophy, describing in great detail how that company is redefining the standards of earthly humanity. So forgive us for offering a different approach. We simply believe that a better kind of food business is one that reflects both good community and good food, as the two frequently go together.
Salt Spring Island Cheese Company specializes in handmade goat and sheep cheeses. We started making cheese in 1994 and started selling it in 1996. Principally, we're known for our chèvres, although we also make several other types of goat cheeses (feta cheeses, surface ripened cheeses, and even a hard cheese).
We make our cheese at our farm on Salt Spring Island, off Canada's west coast, and while you can buy our cheese as far east as Toronto, we encourage you to come to the island, wander the farm and taste the cheese fresh for yourself.
The Salt Spring Saturday Farmer's Market:
Each Saturday, from March through October, you can visit Canada's best loved outdoor arts, crafts, and farm market: the Salt Spring Island Saturday Market.
Salt Spring Island Cheese Company has long had a booth at the market and we encourage you to visit the market and see what the other artisans of Salt Spring produce.
Fresh breads, tapenades, soaps, flowers, pottery, pastries, dumplings, and paintings are all present at the various booths, and make for an enjoyable afternoon.

Visiting Salt Spring Island:
Like Brigadoon, Salt Spring Island remains a timeless kind of place. However, unlike that particular Scottish hamlet, our Island doesn't come and go once every 100 years; it is quite accessible most days of the year by ferry, water taxi or sea plane.
Located between Vancouver Island and the mainland of British Columbia, Salt Spring has unusually temperate weather year round. The island has a whole host of bed and breakfasts for accomodations, as well as day spas to relax, and cultural events for the evening.
If you find yourself on the island having experienced our Farm Shop, the Salt Spring Studio Tour and the Saturday Market, the local tourist information center has plenty more to suggest:

The climate, land, sea and sky of Salt Spring - like a really good cheese - can only be described so far by images and words, before you have to come and experience them for yourself.
